Invited by the Key Laboratory of High Power Microwave Source and Technology at IECAS (Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences), Professor David K. Abe of NRL (US Naval Research Laboratory) and two other scholars visited Huairou Park of IECAS on April 30, 2015, after attending the International Vacuum Electronics Conference (April 27-29, 2005) in Beijing, and gave an academic report on the topic of “Vacuum Electronics Research at the US Naval Research Laboratory” in Room 301. The seminar was presided over by Research Ding Yaogen of the Key Laboratory of High Power Microwave Source and Technology. The attendees mainly included researchers and graduate students of the Key Laboratory and Space Traveling Wave Tube Center.

In his report, Professor David K. Abe introduced the history, organization structure and existing research on vacuum electronics of the US Naval Research Laboratory, focusing on the latest progress of the research on multi-beam klystron, high-frequency sheet-beam klystron and high-frequency traveling wave tubes. After the report, the attendees participated in heated discussion and communication with Professor David K. Abe and others regarding the technical problems of high frequency microwave devices, which is of promotional significance to IECAS for the development of high frequency microwave devices.

Professor David K. Abe was granted with a PhD degree by the University of Maryland in 1992, and began working in the Vacuum Electronics Division there in 1997. Currently, he is the director of Electromagnetic Technology Division at NRL and commissioner of the IEEE Vacuum Electronics Technology Committee. (Gao Dongping)
