Today is the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the sensor technology laboratory of Institute of Electronics. On the afternoon of June 6, the 9th department held a Seminar on 20th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Sensor Technology Laboratory of the Institute of Electronics, China Academy of Science on the 15th floor of Scientific and Electronics Building. Zhu Huimin, former director of the institute and researcher, Director Wu Yirong and Deputy Director Ding Chibiao and Deputy Director Zhang Guoqing and Cai Chenxi, Head of Comprehensive Office and all in-service or retired personnel and students in the laboratory participated in this seminar.
Xia Shanhong, the head and researcher of our laboratory hosted the seminar. Head Xia firstly introduced leaders of the institute who participated in this seminar and the retired elderly comrades in the laboratory, and expressed warm welcome and sincere gratitude for their coming.
Cui Dafu, the former head and researcher of the laboratory gave an excellent report titled Birth and Growth of Sensor Technology Laboratory. The report started with the development and change of the Institute of Electronics and the working experience of Teacher Cui, narrating the historical background and development process of the time when the laboratory was founded; narrating multiple trials, one failure, three opportunities and three confirmations during the birth, development and evolution process of the laboratory vividly and specifically combining three themes including pioneering, establishing and development. The report mentioned that our laboratory was young in the Institute of Electronics and we must be modest and prudent, willing to study hard and the report reminded that the bright foresight coexist with competition and elimination, hoping young people could maintain a sense of crisis, a sense of pressure and a sense of responsibility all the time.
Teacher Cui’s report was vivid, wonderful and exciting. Then, researcher Zhu Huimin and Director Wu Yirong gave important speeches successively.
Research Zhu Huimin mentioned in the speech that she had profound emotions for the 9th department and sincerely felt happy for all progress of the Laboratory. She thought that the academic atmosphere was excellent in the 9th department and there were frequent domestic and overseas communications and many young comrades went abroad to attend academic meetings and foreign famous experts were invited to give lectures in the institute and conduct academic communications. She hoped that the subject directions in the laboratory could be centralized from dispersion and with a supporting point and stick to that point, the laboratory could surely achieve plenteous achievements.
Then Director Wu Yirong pointed out that the 9th department had many scientific research projects and Head Xia spent a lot of energy on promoting technology to be transited to application. He thought that the laboratory had entered this stage and it could generate many applications. We should focus on applications and stabilize continuous input and research in one direction, which is the best method to obtain achievements. The Academy of Science has entered the innovation 2020 Stage and the Institute is planning the future development of the laboratory. He hoped that young comrades think carefully about how to continue the process and expected that the 9th department could produce periodical application accomplishment to meet the country’s major needs.
At last, Head Xia made a summary of this meeting. She emphasized that it was precious for the laboratory to have such a platform so everyone should cherish the existing scientific research conditions. Meanwhile she pointed out that as a nationally key laboratory we should occupy a position in the frontier field of sensor technology on one hand and should solve the country’s application needs on the other hand. So we should not only conduct original researches but also do work with application value to our country and make contributions to our country’s sensor technology development.
