At the invitation of the Key Laboratory of Electromagnetic Radiation and Probing Technology of IECAS (No. 10 Laboratory), on the morning of November 30, Prof. Liu Qinghuo of Duke University visited IECAS, deeply exchanging ideas with IECAS’ researchers on such aspects as electromagnetic and acoustic probing and imaging.

During the visit, Liu made an academic report on “Some Recent Progress in Electromagnetic and Acoustic Imaging”, introducing a series of new methods of electromagnetic and acoustic imaging, including the super-resolution imaging algorithm and experiment in electromagnetic parameter inversion of targets, the new method of electromagnetic imaging of targets in enclosed cavities and the new method of microwave-induced thermo-acoustic biomedical imaging. Also, he elaborated on the new progress in the applications of electromagnetic probing in such aspects as hydrocarbon reservoir locating while drilling and crack locating in shale gas microseisms. Following the presentation, the teachers and students present raised questions actively, deeply exchanging views with Liu on the specific issues covered in the presentation.

Afterwards, Fang Guangyou, Director of No. 10 Laboratory, showed Liu around the laboratory, introducing its projects and research direction. Liu showed a strong interest in the laboratory’s research progress, and discussed the future cooperation in electromagnetic probing with the heads of the Laboratory.

Liu is a world-famous electromagnetic scientist, a fellow member of IEEE and the Acoustical Society of America, as well as a distinguished professor for the country’s “Recruitment Program of Global Experts” and Xiamen University. His researches cover a wide range of fields including computational electromagnetism, computational acoustics and super-resolution imaging methods, the research findings of which have been extensively applied in such aspects as geophysics, integrated circuit packaging, complex medium probing, environmental protection and medical imaging.
