On December 4, the 2nd Conference of the 1st Academic Committee of the Key Laboratory of Spatial Information Processing and Applied System (KLSIPAS), CAS was held in Hefei, Anhui. Members of the academic committee, as well as leaders, experts and representatives of units like the Bureau of Planning and Finance (BPF) and Bureau of High-Tech Research and Development (BHTRD), CAS, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and the Institute of Electronics, CAS (IECAS) were present. Ding Chibiao, deputy director IECAS, presided over the conference.

First, Wu Yirong, director of IECAS, extended warm welcome to Academician Gong Huixing and other members of the academic committee, Yu Yingjie, chief of the General Division of BHTRD and Hou Hongfei, deputy chief of the Base Division of BPF, expressed heartfelt thanks to the attending experts and leaders for their permanent support to the laboratory, and pinned ardent hope on the future development of the laboratory.

Subsequently, the attendees listened to the annual work report by Fu Kun, director of KLSIPAS and the proposal report on the construction of the south division of the laboratory by Chen Weidong, director of the Department of Electronic Engineering and Information Science of the School of Information Science and Technology of USTC, and had heated discussions about subjects such as the disciplinary building, research task fulfillment, team building, talent training and joint building of the laboratory. They spoke highly of the laboratory’s progress and achievements in disciplinary orientation condensation, academic results, talent introduction and training, and major research project construction, unanimously recognized the idea of IECAS and the School of Information Science and Technology of USTC to jointly build KLSIPAS, considered the combination to be helpful to promoting the disciplinary building and talent training of the laboratory and to be of great importance to upgrading the laboratory to a national engineering center (engineering laboratory) or a national key laboratory, and suggested filing an application with the competent department of CAS for approval in regard to the joint building of the laboratory.

The conference deliberated on and adopted the proposal on co-opting Li Weiping, professor of USTC, as member of the academic committee, and issued a letter of appointment.

At last, Academician Gong Huixing, chairman of the academic committee; department leaders of CAS and Zhu Changfei, vice chairman of USTC, made speeches.
