At the invitation of Institute of Electronics, Prof. Xu Yongping with National University of Singapore paid a visit to System on Programmable Chip Research Departement for academic exchange and communication through November11 to 13, 2010.

During the visit, Prof. Xu kindly gave an impressive seminar on “Multi-bit Sigma-Delta Modulator with Noise Shaping DAC” about his latest research work and an overview of the frontier development in the field of microelectronics. This seminar proposed a new noise shaping DEM (NS-DEM) technique in an attempt to eliminate the trade-off between the SFDR and SNR of the ΔΣM with the existing DEM. Unlike most existing DEMs trading SNR for SFDR, the proposed technique improves both SFDR and SNR.

The seminar turned out to be a success and got the attendees actively involved in it. At the end of it, all the present joined a hot discussion on their confusions and questions on which Prof. Xu gave a clear and elaborate explanation. This seminar served as an eye- opener for the researchers and enabled them to closely keep pace with the latest development in the microelectronics field. Meanwhile, the researchers also took the opportunity to have a discussion on the next-step cooperation between IECAS and NUS.
