On May 28, 2015, the open access online journal Microsystems & Nanoengineering, cooperatively created by the Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and British Nature Publishing Group (NPG), was officially published online. The website of the journal is as follows: http://www.nature.com/micronano/.

Microsystems & Nanoengineering is the first academic journal regarding systems and engineering among the cooperative journals of NPG. On May 28, 2014, the Institute of Electronics and British Nature Publishing Group signed a Cooperative Publishing Agreement; both cooperation parties have depended on their respective expertise and superiorities, and have made great joint efforts. The progress of the publication has proceeded very smoothly. It is expected that in the future cooperation, the journal of Microsystems & Nanoengineering may join the ranks of the top academic journals of the world in terms of the publishing platform of nature and outstanding ideas of operating a periodical, and based on the academic support of the State Key Laboratory of Sensor Technology of the Institute of Electronics, by implementing the international peer-reviewed open access journal pattern.

The Editor-in-Chief of Microsystems & Nanoengineering is Professor Yirong Wu from the Institute of Electronics, and the Executive Editors are Tenured Professor Tianhong Cui from the University of Minnesota and Chief Vice-President Professor Ian White (Royal Academy of Engineering) from the University of Cambridge. There are a total of 22 members on the Editorial Board, of which overseas scholars account for about two-thirds, and are all well-known experts of various disciplines in the micro system and nano engineering fields. This international Editorial Board will provide strong support for the rapid development of the journal.

Microsystems & Nanoengineering mainly publishes original papers and reviews which reflect the latest research progress in the field of micro nano mechanical electro systems (MEMS/NEMS). The periodical includes papers covering topics such as new design (theory, modeling and simulation) of micro nano devices and systems, advanced manufacturing, testing technology, reliability and new application, nano engineering technology, etc.

64 academic publications represented by “nature” in the Nature Publishing Group are the most influential authoritative journals in their related fields. Microsystems & Nanoengineering is the ninth publication periodical of the cooperation between the Nature Publishing Group and China, and the 17th cooperative periodical in the Asia Pacific region.

Here, we warmly congratulate the birth of Microsystems & Nanoengineering. In the future, we shall cooperate sincerely with the Nature Publishing Group and work together to create an excellent and prestigious journal, and contribute to the communication and development of the micro system and nano engineering fields.
