CAS-DIS Ionospheric Digital Ionosonde passes appraisal for science and technology achievement

March 18, 2014   The CAS-DIS Ionospheric Digital Ionosonde passed the appraisal for science and technology achievement organized by the China Institute of Electronics. The secretary and deputy director of the Institute of Electronics, Sun Dianyi, attended the meeting and delivered a welcome speech. The meeting set up an evaluation committee with 11 members from the Science and Technology Division and the Planning Division in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Weather Service, General Staff Meteorological Service, the State Seismological Bureau, Beijing Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and National Space Science Center. Two academicians, Mao Erke and Wan Weixing, were selected as director and deputy director of the committee, respectively.

The Committee heard the technical summary report, novelty assessment report, user reports, test reports , economic benefits reports, and social benefits reports, as well as inspected the work process of the Ionospheric Digital Ionosonde. After a full evaluation and discussion, the committee made the following decision: the CAS-DIS Ionospheric Digital Ionosonde has achieved a number of technical innovations, leading the domestic sphere and on a similar level with international products. In particular, these technologies, including a real-time tracking narrow-band filter, all-digital circularly polarized wave generation, as well as the separation of O and X waves, are superior to foreign products.

The CAS-DIS Ionospheric Digital Ionosonde has been successfully applied in meteorological monitoring and disaster warning construction, with several stations being stably run for three years, which provide a reliable source of data for the monitoring of space and weather disaster monitoring and early warning services for the National Satellite Meteorological Center, resulting in significant economic and social benefits. The 10th division will further promote the market application of CAS-DIS Ionospheric Digital Ionosonde. (10th division Zhang Qunying )
