On January 12, 2011, the Key Laboratory of High-power Microwave Source and Technology (KLHMST), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), held the second session of the first academic committee. All the committee members, relevant leaders of the Bureau of High-Tech Research and Development, CAS, IECAS Deputy Director Liu Pukun, as well as relevant staff of the Department of Science and Technology and KLHMST were present.

The attendees listened to the work report of KLHMST and “twelfth five-year” strategic planning report given by Director Liu and Executive Deputy Director Zhang Zhaochuan, and inquired into KLHMST’s recent research achievements and progress in organization management and team building.

The committee spoke highly of KLHMST’s research achievements over the year, thinking that a series of technical breakthroughs in researches on millimeter-wave gyro traveling wave tube, continuous wave gyrotron, peak power klystron and multiple-beam klystron as well as great progress in basic researches on new devices such as sheet-beam klystron and extended interaction klystron represented its research level and conformed to its research emphasis and orientation. The twelfth five-year plan mapped out by KLHMST kept pace with the development trend and application demands of international high-power microwave vacuum power source, and pointed out the direction of its recent and long-term development.

At last, the committee suggested that KLHMST should intensify generic technology and application foundation research, cement ties with relevant domestic and overseas research entities and universities, and further the work of high-caliber talent training and introduction.

KLHMST will ponder on these useful suggestions and put them into practice, keep optimizing research deployment and increase the level of research management to boost its overall research level. (Ma Ran, Office 4)
