From October 4 to 7, 2010, Dr. Bakhanov of the Institute of Applied Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences (IAPRAS) visited IECAS at our invitation, giving three impressive academic reports on the theories and technical matters on “oceanic internal wave and surface modulation and microwave detection technology”, including:

“NONLINEAR SURFACE WAVE MODULATION BY A INHOMOGENEOUS FLOW”

“KINEMATIC MODEL OF INTERNAL WAVE ACTION ON WIND-WAVES”

“SUBSATELLITE EXPERIMENTS IN THE NORTH-EASTERN PART OF THE BLACK SEA”

Early in the 1970s, IAPRAS has embarked on the research on the basic theories and experiments on oceanic internal wave and surface wave modulation. The research team, headed by Dr. Bakhanov, is currently one of the world’s most leading research teams in this area. IAPRAS has the world’s largest thermal stratification tank laboratory, which is capable of quantitative production of wind, wave and internal wave, is equipped with a great number of precise sensors such as ultrasonic altimeter, ultrasonic tachometer, thermal sensor array, microwave radar and CCD altimeter, and is one of the world’s strongest laboratories in experimental research on mechanisms and models of oceanic internal wave and surface wave modulation.

During the visit, IECAS’s experts and Bakhanov probed into the method of microwave detection of interaction between internal wave and surface wave, reached a consensus on the IECAS-IAPRAS joint research on the “experiment on microwave observation of internal wave and surface wave modulation”, and signed a joint contract for the experimental research. IECAS is scheduled to send experts including Zhu Minhui, Zhong Jinsong, Wang Xiaoqing and Dong Ge to IAPRAS on November 22 for a one-month joint experimental research. (Wang Xiaoqing, No.1 Office)
