On the morning of August 24th, Professor of the Electric Engineering Department of Washington University Shi Chuanjin, invited by Researcher of the Programmable Chip and System Research Laboratory Yang Haigang, paid a visit to the Institute of Electronics for the academic exchange. At No. 1007 Conference Hall of the Science & Electronics Building, Mr. Shi made a spectacular lecture entitled Low Power Design Techniques, and more than 30 staff and students from the No. 11 Institute attended the lecture.

Professor Shi, who has years of project experience in microelectronic sector, gave an introduction to the international advanced IC low power design technology and its development trend. Centering on the power consumption in different aspects like “Frequency”, “Leakage”, and “Switch Activity” etc., Professor Shi expounded power reduction methods by fixed voltage designs like “Reduced vdd”, “Sizing”, and “Multi-vdd” etc., and he also introduced “Dynamic Frequency Scaling” and “Dynamic Voltage Scaling” modes under variable voltage designs. Besides, he elaborated the efficient and feasible low power design ideas like “Clock Gating” and “Sleep Transistor” etc.

During the lecture, the atmosphere was enlivened, and Professor Shi earnestly answered audience’s questions, as well as had a hot discussion with attendees.

This lecture serves as one of the “Innovative Team International Partner Program”-Overseas Scholars Series Report Activities, which was assumed by the Programmable Chip and System Research Laboratory, and the activity provides our institute’s scientific researchers with a platform to duly learn about sophisticated technologies in the chip design sector.
