On the morning of April 8, Zhan Wenlong, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), visited IECAS to survey the development of the klystrons for large scientific projects in China, and held a symposium with IECAS staff on the localization of the klystron.

At the symposium, Academician Wu Yirong, director of IECAS, elaborated on the institute’s overall development, Researcher Wang Yong, deputy director of the Key Laboratory of High Power Microwave Sources and Technologies (KLHPM), gave a report on IECAS’s progress in the development of high-power klystrons. After having listened to the reports carefully, Zhan fully affirmed IECAS’s efforts, noting that the institute’s research on the klystrons for large scientific projects was well-grounded, and high energy accelerators using S-band 50MW klystron and L-band 10MW multi-beam klystron was a good point of entry. He hoped that IECAS would give full play to its advantage, aim at the national strategic demand, cement cooperation with internal and external entities and make new achievements in the development of the klystrons for large scientific projects such as clean nuclear power system in a bid to accomplish the localization of the core devices as soon as possible. Subsequently, IECAS Deputy Director Zhang Guoqing showed Zhan around KLHPM’s klystron processing and testing site.

Liu Minghua, director of the Bureau of Basic Sciences, CAS (BBS), together with Huang Min, chief of the General Division of BBS and Qiao Runlong, chief of the Division of Large Scientific Projects and Nuclear Sciences, participated in the survey. (Science & Technology Division)
